Does Superior really &ldquo;need&rdquo; more housing?The Town of Superior has completed our first <a href="https://shapesuperior.com/20670/widgets/74577/documents/49682">Housing Needs Assessment</a> (HNA)&ndash; yay! The HNA is intended to provide elected officials, staff, and town residents with demographic, economic, transportation, and housing data that is helpful in understanding housing trends in Superior. It forms the basis of information that will be used in the final housing study.Staff has found the data in the HNA to be very thought-provoking. It&rsquo;s spurred us to reflect on the way different people living in or hoping to relocate to Superior might be thinking about housing. So, we&rsquo;ve been thinking about young people growing up in Superior who might want this to be their home for life; about teachers, firefighters, and carpenters who have lived here for decades and what they might want and need in the decades to come; about aging empty nesters who no longer want or are able to live in a single-family home; about people who may have transferred to the area from out of state and hope to make Superior their new home.In particular, Staff started meditating on this little ditty about Jack and Diane&hellip; Jack and Diane are feeling stuck.<a href="https://shapesuperior.com/housing/surveys/what-advice-would-you-give-to-jack-and-diane-provide-your-feedback" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><img src="https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/ehq-production-us-california/fb8ed285d2750781065da30d4a39116fcc2e0c37/original/1707344657/55fcc30e3319574980540235f2acbb99_2024-1-31_FullGraphic.jpg?1707344657" style="width: 379px;" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-fil"></a>Jack and Diane are a couple that live in Superior. Jack works in insurance and earns about $100k per year. Diane has owned a wellness and yoga studio for 10 years and earns about $40k per year. Jack and Diane have lived in Boulder County since college and bought their 4-bedroom home in Rock Creek in 2005 for $360k. They refinanced in 2019 in order to remodel and upgrade their windows.Jack and Diane still have decent equity but rely on it to help their children pay for college. They have 25 years left on their refinanced mortgage, with a 3.5% interest rate. They can afford these payments currently but are hoping to downsize once their kids have graduated. Because rents are high in Superior and across the Front Range, Tyler is living at home with his parents until he finds a housing option that is affordable to him. Samantha is 20 and going to school on a partial scholarship for music at Oberlin. They currently live in rural Nebraska, but Paul&rsquo;s health is declining and he no longer drives, making it more and more difficult for them to live independently. They would like to move closer to Diane and downsize from their 4 bedroom house and multi-acre property. Town Communications Study

OverviewThe Rock Creek Parkway Repurposing Study evaluated the lane configuration and roadway geometry of Rock Creek Parkway to determine if changes would improve the corridor&rsquo;s safety and comfort for all users. The project team collected traffic, crash, and speed data along the corridor. This data was then used in technical analyses to compare existing and potential future configurations.Another critical component of the study was to gather community input on current and potential future corridor configurations. Throughout the project, there have been multiple opportunities for Town residents and visitors to provide input on what they like and do not like about the corridor currently and ideas for the corridor&#39;s future. This website will continue to be updated frequently as Town Board and staff review the study and potential changes, so check back often to learn more.<hr> December 2023 Update:Town staff and engineers presented the Rock Creek Parkway Reconstruction proposal and Repurposing Study findings and recommendations at the <a href="https://townofsuperior.granicus.com/player/clip/2425?view_id=4&redirect=true&h=2c56364999bedb00f3d1d9f05ab6fe2b" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Town Board meeting on 12/11/2023</a>. The Town Board approved the contract with J&amp;T Consulting to design Phase 1 of the reconstruction, which will include the roadway section from McCaslin Blvd. to Pitkin Ave. While the Town is reconstructing the roadway, it is a good time to address safety issues along the corridor, and the Town Board approved the contract with Fox Tuttle to do the repurposing design. The repurposing design will maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction, though the lanes will be narrowed to reduce speeds and allow for a larger bicycle lane with a striped buffer. To address pedestrian crossing safety at intersections, several dedicated right turn lanes will be eliminated, and additional crossing infrastructure like HAWK beacons (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk Beacons) or additional RRFBs (Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons) will be explored and installed where necessary. The need for a roundabout or traffic light at Coal Creek Drive and RCP intersection will be explored but will not be included in the 2024 project. <hr> November 2023 Update:The Town of Superior engineers and Town Board members are currently reviewing project summaries and reports (found in &quot;Documents&quot; to the right), and weighing all data and input provided throughout the study process. Superior SNAPS Photo Competition

The Town is in the process of creating a master plan for the future of Coyote Ridge and seeking your input. The open space will remain a passive open space with trails, restoration areas, and minimal improvements, and the master plan will help define future accessibility improvements and management practices. Coyote Ridge Open Space  

A new 8,000-square-foot civic space is under construction in Downtown Superior, with completion expected in late 2023 or early 2024. (See the Civic Space Floorplan Layout under &quot;Key Documents&quot; in the right column.) The Civic Space is roughly half the size in square footage of the Superior Community Center.The 2-story public space includes an entry lobby, restrooms on both levels, an elevator, an interior stairway, and large glass overhead doors on each floor. Space has also been identified for a small warming or catering kitchen and office space for staff to operate the building.Initial ideas for space usage include a library area, meeting space, studio/classroom space for classes and activities, and event and/or performance space.The Town is seeking input from the community on potential uses.
