1500 Coalton Road Community Engagement
Welcome to the 1500 Coalton Road Community Engagement Page. Here you will be able to find key dates, important links and contact information.
So far, in this engagement we have administered a Preference Survey which has now concluded. You can find results from the initial surveys below. Revisions to design and usage have been made by the architects and we are now soliciting feedback on these revisions. Please scroll down to review designs and add your feedback.
If you need assistance of any kind, please contact kevinc@superiorcolorado.gov.

Are there plans for an actual library on-site? Who is going to be responsible for staffing/managing it? Or will it just be a drop off point for returning books? Are there plans to join the Louisville/Broomfield/Boulder consortium?
The cafe option puts the Town in direct competition with nearby local businesses—this makes no sense, and is unfair. Besides food courts are not generally a feature in community centers. (See https://www.louisvilleco.gov/residents/recreation-senior-services/facilities)
If people feel they need a snack, then vending machines should suffice or, better, they could walk across the parking lot to the Starbucks and support a local business.
Overall I like the plan, the layout and multiple types of use. I see there are stairs to multiple levels, are ADA requirements being addressed? (Also multiple levels could impact ADA bathroom access.) I am curious as others are about operating costs of the space, fees to use the space open or keyed access? Will there always be a city employee onsite to supervise and manage the facility, particularly during times of teenage use? I do have questions about coffee, cafe, beer, restaurant facilities and level of use, private/public, etc.
Appreciate the variety in Design.
1. Echoing other comments, I'd like to see a secondary bathroom location if feasible. In researching, I recognize that 25 people per stall is met by the existing design, but would be nice to have one near food truck/festival area for larger events.
2. Recognize that the plumbing and electrical don't really allow for a full service restaurant. Concessions may be warranted though.
3. Any way to make stage seating retractable, like bleachers or similar to a stadium converting from Football to Baseball? This would add flexibility to the space.
4. As an aside, I never want to pay tax dollars for a Rec Center in Superior. We have Lifetime Athletic, Sports Stable and Louisville Rec Center all within 5 miles. Further abroad, a variety of yoga studios, CrossFit, and Chuze. If you want exercise, go pay for it yourself, I don't want to subsidize you.
Wow, the plans are really coming together. I like the added book lockers and toddler area. I think the only thing missing is access to public transportation. Teens and Seniors will be big users of this building and will appreciate a bus stop or uber/shuttle drop off point.
It looks like it will be an interesting space. I love the thought of community coming together and a space for youth (not just little kids and toddlers) where all interests and identities are accepted. I'm hoping that will be the case. I'm a bit confused (though I wasn't able to attend either open house) how this space will really be used, who will be generating the events/activities in the space? Will a restaurant be recruited to be in there? What will the price point be? I think a game space and meeting space is good.
What is the purpose of this place? Superior is missing a few things - rec center, non Starbucks coffee shop, brewery / restaurant where people can actually bike to. We are desperate for a good restaurant and bar within walking distance and a rec center that is not outrageous like Lifetime. We also don't need a library - we have Louisville and the kids have libraries at their schools. I don't understand what population this plan will serve. It seems like a meeting space to me. How many community meetings are there? I feel like the loudest voices are getting what they want whether or not it makes any sense. This entire idea seems antiquated.
I like the flexibility of the space and overall design. I'd like to see some thought put into how we could allow for some minimal indoor recreation, not to compete with existing rec options nearby but as an alternative for people who don't need/want a rec center membership. I'm also curious if there could be a second bathroom or a different configuration for the existing bathroom which would allow only a portion of the building to be open but still provide bathroom access. As currently designed it looks like the entire building would need to be open in order for the bathroom facilities to be accessed. Ideally if some smaller portion of the building was available via keycard this might open options for uses which don't require as much staff support. Thanks for sharing!
Knock it down and build a well designed, smaller recreation center. There is enough room. Three levels with pool on bottom, weights/training machines/workout areas on level two and courts on level 3 (can have higher ceiling). Parking structure can be placed in back, with some levels underground to limit the height.
What happened to the restaurant and bar? We are desperate for a good restaurant and bar within walking distance. We also don't need a library - we have Louisville and the kids have libraries at their schools. I don't understand what population this plan will serve. It seems like a boring meeting space. WE NEED A REC CENTER AND RESTAURANT/BAR.
Superior needs a rec center.
It is looking good! As much meeting room space as possible would be great for 4-6 people with a whiteboard and a wall-mounted monitor so that students can study in groups and community members can meet in small groups instead of trying to find space at crowded coffee shops.
A second floor with a large outdoor patio and view of the flatirons would be awesome.
I appreciate the revisions and consideration for live music, brewery, outdoor patio and food trucks. The outdoor patio should be for year-round use as weather permits so please make sure that there is plenty of shade for outside areas. The shade around the town is severely lacking and no one wants to sit in the direct sun all the time. It will be a hit and a miss if you don't pay attention to this important detail. Will pets be allowed? Can you tie up your pets outside? Just curious because Superior residents both love their pets and hate other people's pets. While my dog is friendly, others are just plain mean so there's definitely a balancing act and this topic looks to be quite sensitive for residents.
Can you sell this building and put the money towards a rec center. A town this size not having a rec center is dumb.
Teen zone - Student area for homework, hangout area supervised is going to be needed. Neighborhood is getting older and these kids have no where to go. A supervised place would be an added bonus. Coffee shop or shake type drinks would be a plus as well as space for meetings for groups that the community support such as Girls Scouts / Local team get together also a cost friendly place for birthday parties.
I would really love to see a cool teen hangout space where teens can go in the evening AND weekends to spend time with friends and also work on projects together or homework, where noise wouldn't be a huge issue. It would also be nice to have "quiet zones" for both teenagers and adults to work with few interruptions that are separate from the larger gathering places. Both would need access to power outlets for devices.
I'd love to see a great utilization of the outdoor space, including a place to lock up bikes, as I suspect/hope many people will choose to bike to this location when the weather allows.
I really hope that whatever becomes of this space, some thought is put into parking. This parking lot is already a disaster with the way that it joins up with the adjacent businesses and the limited entry/exit points. I would be nice to see more organized parking and NO street parking allowed on the adjacent streets or neighborhoods for people using this space.
Thumbs up.
Denver International Airport is owned by the City and County of Denver. Love their food court! And can get a beer, as well. I see no difference here.
So awesome that Superior will have a place for tweens and/or teens to hang out in the winter (other than Safeway and Starbucks).
Shaping up very nicely, I’m appreciative of your hard work. While I appreciate the town probably doesn’t want to be in the restaurant business, I strongly agree with the others commenting it will not flourish without quality food and beverage. And I’ll add entertainment to that as well. You have a very exciting opportunity to do something uniquely different, I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
